When will a new water meter be installed at my address?
Aqua WSC is currently installing meters in Zone 4. After Zone 4 is completed, we are planning to move into Zone 8. With approximately 33,000 new meters to install, this project is phased and we anticipate it taking approximately five years to complete. Moving forward to stay ahead of the project, new members automatically receive a smart meter. Check out our Interactive Map at the bottom of the page to see where AMI Meters are currently installed.
How is the project being paid for?
Aqua WSC is covering the expense of labor and equipment for switching out the analog meters for the smart meters. If you are a new member applying for a water meter, normal fees will apply.
As part of our commitment to affordability, Aqua WSC is in the process of applying for Federal grants to help support the program.
Do I need to do anything before my new meter is installed?
Check the area around your water meter. If landscaping or other personal items are blocking access to your meter, please remove them prior to installation.
How can I request a new water meter at my home or business?
There’s no need to request a new smart meter unless you are not yet a member or you are wanting to add another meter to your property. Aqua WSC will install approximately 33,000 new smart meters in phases for existing customers. We’re working to replace every member’s meter as quickly as we can!
Will the new meter be installed in the same location as the current meters?
Yes, Aqua WSC plans to install new meters in the same location.
Will there be a disruption in water service during installation of the meter?
During installation, your water service will be disrupted for about 5 to 10 minutes. If the disruption is any longer, an Aqua WSC meter technician will come to your door to inform you of the lengthened disruption.
Will I be notified if I am using water when they arrive to change out the meter?
Yes. One of our meter technicians will inform you that they are preparing to change out the meter before the water use is disrupted.
Who is installing the new meters?
Aqua WSC’s meter technician team is working diligently and efficiently to change out the meters. Each one of our technicians is identified by a branded Aqua WSC vehicle and their Aqua WSC uniforms.
Will my water bill increase when a new meter is installed?
Depending on the age of your existing meter, improved accuracy with any new meter could result in an increase on average. The new meters ensure accurate measurement, billing only for the water used. Additionally, members will gain tools to monitor and manage water consumption effectively.
Who pays for the electricity for the new meter?
The meters will be powered by a battery that typically has a 10-year lifespan. Aqua WSC will be responsible for replacing the battery when necessary.
How will the system work during a power outage?
Since the meters and data collectors are battery powered, power outages will not affect the data collection portion of the system.
What if someone hacks into the new system? Will they be able to turn off my water service?
Aqua WSC is installing meters that do not have the capability to remotely turn off water service. Water service can only be turned off manually. The data transmission system is encrypted and anonymous, so it is secure from hacking.
Will Aqua WSC be able to shut off my water using this device?
Aqua WSC does not and will not have the ability to turn off or regulate members’ water use remotely.
How will the meter data be transmitted?
Data will be transmitted by radio frequency.
Is it safe for people to be around the equipment?
It is safe to be around the equipment. The power source is equivalent to two AA-batteries. The batteries are sealed in water-proof epoxy.
